Thesis No.2
Okay, I’m going to be honest here.
I’m not sure what my thesis is yet. Probably because I haven’t finished my book yet… I was planning on reading like a fiend over the weekend, but didn’t really anticipate how sleepy codeine and blue raspberry liquid advil make me. So I didn’t get much done. =/
I have some notes that I could be the beginning of thesis possibilities though.
- Each character seems to be a different ‘character’ or viewpoint in a revolution or societal decay.
- The zealous use of ’slang’ and shortening of words – sort of like IMspeak today. I could go into that and go into why humans do that, how it connects to social upheaval and global changes…
- The book is a social upheaval, entirely like one. I could study them and relate it to history. (late 60s – when I think SOZ was written – Vietnam, introduction of technology, drugs)
- Maybe I could even contrast it to another book. Although I’m not sure what. Maybe Brave New World, it’s more like that then 1984.
Those are my thoughts for now. I’m reading like a fiend now, since I’ve said goodbye to Mr. Liquid Blue Raspberry Advil and Mr. Codeine. :)
